PREVIEW: Pats End Mini Alberta Trip Today vs. Hitmen
Regina, Sask. – The Regina Pats finish off their two game Alberta road trip today at 3:00 p.m., Sask. time against the Calgary Hitmen.
The Pats enter tonight’s game with a 16-23-4-2 record with 38 points, sitting in 10th in the Eastern Conference __ points back of the eighth and final playoff spot. The Hitmen are tied for eighth in the East with 44 points, holding a 19-18-5-1 record this season.

Today’s matchup between the Pats and Hitmen is considered a “four point” game, as the Pats trail the Hitmen by six points in the Eastern Conference standings.
The Pats are coming off a 6-1 loss on Friday at the hands of the Lethbridge Hurricanes to begin the trip. Sam Oremba scored the Pats only goal which came early in the second period to bring the Pats to within one, trailing 2-1. The Hurricanes would respond with four straight goals to take it 6-1, as the season series ends 2-2. The Pats swapped goaltenders throughout the game, with Kelton Pyne playing the first 43:52 (4GA-28SH) and Ewan Huet playing the final 16:08 (2GA-12SH). The final shots were 40-20 for the Hurricanes. The Pats were 1-2 on their power play and 3-4 on their penalty kill.
The Pats are 3-4 over their last seven games, and have points in four of their last seven road games coming into this afternoon’s tilt.
Meanwhile, the Hitmen are coming off their second straight victory, as they defeated the Brandon Wheat Kings 8-0 on Friday inside the Saddledome. Alex Garrett made 33 saves for his first career shutout while 13 different players on Calgary had at least a point. Seven Hitmen players had multi-point games; Maxim Muranov (2G-1A), Ben Kindel (2G), Carter Yakemchuk (3A), Ethan Moore (1G-1A), Carson Wetsch (1G-1A), Oliver Tulk (1G-1A) and Aleksey Chichkin (2A).
The final shots were 39-33 for Calgary. The Wheat Kings went 0-5 on their power play and the Hitmen went 1-4 on their power play.
Since January 5, the Hitmen are 6-1 over their last seven games, outscoring their opponents 40-to-19. Today’s game will be the final game of their seven game homestand. They will play two on the road before coming home for four.
