TRI-CITY SKATES PAST SPOKANE 7-3
The Spokane Chiefs fell to the Tri-City Americans by a score of 7-3 in front of a sellout crowd of 10,367 on Saturday night. Dominik Uher led the way for Spokane with a three point effort.
Tri-City got on the board first, scoring just 1:13 into the game on a Justin Feser goal.
The Americans would add to their lead midway through the first when Zachary Yuen batted a loose puck into the net at 9:56 after Chiefs goaltender Eric Williams had made the initial save.
The Chiefs offense came alive late in the second period scoring back to back goals to tie the game at two.
Uher was then a beneficiary of a perfect set up from Dylan Walchuck to score his team leading 27th goal at 16:36 of the first.
Mitch Holmberg then scored just 19-seconds later after digging the puck off the boards and skating into the slot to score at 16:55.
The second period was all Americans as the visiting team scored two unanswered. Patrick Holland found the back of the net at 11:11 of the second and Feser got his second of the night at 14:32. Feser’s goal prompted the Chiefs to make a change in net and bring in Mac Engel.
The Chiefs came within a goal at 9:46 of the third on a blast from Blake Gal with assists going to Brenden Kichton and Uher to make it a one goal game.
The Americans scored three consecutive goals to finish the game. Holland got his second of the night at 14:11 scoring on a two-on-one, and Adam Hughesman made it 6-3 for Tri-Cities scoring on the power play. Shinniman added an empty net goal with 13 seconds left to play making it a final of 7-3 in favor of the Americans.
The Chiefs finished the game 0-5 on the power play and 1-2 on the penalty kill. Spokane outshot Tri-City 39-30. The Chiefs next game is on the road against the Victoria Royals on Tuesday February 28. The next home game comes Wednesday, March 7 when the Kelowna Rockets come to town.
