Whalers Down Sting 5-3
Plymouth, MI – One thing the Sting have done so well all season was hold on to a victory when heading into the third period with a lead.
In fact up until Saturday night in Plymouth the Sting had a record of 10-0-1-2 when leading after forty minutes. In 13 tries when holding that lead they had managed to come away with a point every time.
Unfortunately that trend would not continue Saturday night in Plymouth.
The Sting led 3-2 going into the third on goals by Mathis Olimb, Brad Efthimiou and Trevor Solomon.
Rookie netminder Mike Iafrate who got the nod between the pipes, was sharp through two periods just surrendering two goals (Mitchell, Collins) on 27 shots.
The third period would see the Whalers, an always dangerous team at home, explode for three unanswered goals good for the 5-3 victory.
Dan Collins a top flight prospect for the upcoming NHL draft would score twice in the third to complete his hat-trick while John Vigilante would put the game out of reach with an empty netter in the games dying seconds.
The Sting dont have much time to regroup as they are in the Soo tonight to take on the Greyhounds. Follow all the action of tonights game on 1070 CHOK beginning 6:30 with the pregame show.
