Patrick Quinlan stopped 27 of 28 shots and the Sarnia Sting picked up their first win of the 2025-26 OHL season, beating the Sudbury Wolves 6-1 in front of a loud crowd of 3,172 at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena on Friday night. Quinlan was sharp throughout the game, especially in the third period, turning away all 14 shots he faced and he was selected as the first star of the game. The Sting offence came to life as they scored a season high of six goals. Ryan Brown was named the second star with a goal. Liam Beamish had a goal and an assist for third star honors. Three Sting players scored their first career OHL goals. For Jordan Bax and Ryder Simpson, it was also their first OHL point. Jacob Reese scored his first career goal as well. Beckham Edwards also notched his first goal of the season, late in the third period to wrap up the scoring.
The Sting welcomed back captain Lukas Fischer from the St. Louis Blues NHL training camp and he responded with a pair of assists. Jack Van Volsen extended his scoring streak to three games with an assist. Cameron Aucoin also had his first OHL point with an assist and Matthew Manza also got into the scoring spree with one assist. Sarnia out-shot Sudbury 30-28 and was better in the face-off dot 33-30. The Sting scored the only power-play goal of the game, with a couple of man-advantages. The Wolves went 0/2. Sarnia got off to a quick start with two goals in the first 3:31 of the game chasing Wolves starting goaltender Jason Tremblay from the contest. Bax opened the scoring after Tremblay mishandled the puck behind his net at 1:10. Simpson put the Sting up by a pair on a blistering slap shot from the blue-line at 3:31. Owen Leonard replaced Tremblay.
Sarnia out-shot Sudbury 8-6. Bax goal was unassisted while Cameron Aucoin and Barr assisted on the Simpson goal. The Sting scored three times in the second period to break the game open. Fischer and Manza set up Beamish’s goal at 6:25. Fischer was again a catalyst for the second goal, as his shot caromed off the back boards to Brown who made no mistake with a power-play goal at 7:38. Van Volsen picked up the second assist. Reese let go a blast from just inside the blue-line and the puck had eyes for an unassisted goal at 17:33. Hudson Chitaroni scored for Sudbury late at 19:10 to break up the shut-out bid.
