Near the end of the period Owen Sound went on the power-play, peppering Surzycia with a number of shots. During the man-advantage a Sting player was assessed a five minute major penalty for boarding, putting the Sting down two men for 1:27 to start the second period. Sarnia put up seven shots on goal in the first period.
