Edwards Scores Twice, Sting Rally Falls Short Losing To Barrie 5-2

Beckham Edwards scored twice in the third period, but the Barrie Colts (15-7-0-0) held on to beat the Sarnia Sting (8-13-1-3), in front of 3,482, Sunday afternoon, at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena. Edwards scored his 10th goal early on at 2:12 of the third period and followed that up with his second of the game and 11th of the season at 14:00 mark, to close the Sting deficit to 4-2, but that was as close as the Sting could get as Barrie would add one more late to ice the victory. Edwards was selected as the second star. Easton Wainwright, Casey Bridgewater and Alessandro Di lorio added single assists for the Sting.
Beau Jelsma had two assists for the Colts and was named the first star. Cole Beaudoin (Utah Hockey Club), scored a pair of goals and was the third star. Evan Passmore had a goal and an assist for the Colts. Sam Hillebrandt stopped 25 of 27 shots in net for Barrie.
Sarnia out-shot Barrie 27-25 and were better in the face-off circle 33-28. Nick Surzycia was strong in net for the Sting, coming up with 20 saves on 25 shots. On the power-play Barrie went 1/3 and Sarnia 1/5. The Barrie Colts scored the lone goal of the first period at 13:19. Following a Sting turnover, the puck came to Passmore and his shot from inside the blue-line was deflected in front by Grayson Tiller. Jelsma also received an assist. Surzycia made a number of good saves and got help from the goal post twice. Sarnia out-shot Barrie 9-7. The Colts scored three times in the middle frame. Beaudoin made it 2-0 at 4:03. Michael Derbidge scored at 11:18, and Passmore lit the lamp at 14:30. The Sting had an early two man-advantage, but could only muster one shot on goal. The Colts put 8 shots on net to the Sting’s 6.
