Sting Re-Structure Scouting Staff
Sarnia, ON Sarnia Sting General Manager Alan Millar announced this afternoon changes to the hockey club’s scouting staff.
Over the last year with the promotions of Phil Horner and Andrew Shaw to the National Hockey League, this off season presented the opportunity to review and restructure the hockey club’s staff Millar stated.
Millar announced that the club has hired Jim Kovachik to be the team’s new Director of Scouting. Kovachik spent the past seven years as a scout with the Oshawa Generals (2001-04) and the reigning Eastern Conference Champion Belleville Bulls (2004-08).
We are very pleased to add Jim Kovachik to our hockey staff as the Director of Scouting. Jim has been part of a very successful Belleville Bulls program the last four years where he has had significant input with their drafts and the success of that hockey club. Jim comes very highly recommended by a number of senior people around the Ontario Hockey League. We look forward to his leadership in our scouting initiatives.
Millar also announced the promotion of Jason Lott as the club’s new Director of Player Development. Lott has served as the Sting’s Scouting
Coordinator for the past four years, prior to that he worked in Mississauga for one year and Guelph for four years.
Jason and I have worked together for a number of years. He is a very loyal, trusting, hard working person. It was time for him to take on a bigger role in our organization, specifically the development of our young players.
Current Sting scouts Mike Glover (Ottawa), John Davison (Sault Ste. Marie), Jim Bricknell (Napanee) and Brian MacKenzie (Newmarket) will return for the 2008-09 season. Millar and Kovachik will immediately begin the process to complete the hockey club’s scouting staff with the addition of a new scout based out of Michigan.
