Sting Drop Tough Division Battle To Whalers
Sarnia, ON – Every season it’s one of the most anticpated games on the schedule and this year was no different.
Close to 4,000 fans were at the SSEC on Friday night ready and willing to let the fur fly during the 7th annual Teddy Bear Toss.
The home crowd would not be disapointed early, as Chad Painchaud let a rocket go over the left shoulder of goaltender Ryan Nie 8:40 into the first period.
Painchaud’s goal triggered the release of over 2,400 stuffed animals on to the ice, as usual Sting fans showing why they are among the best fans in all the CHL.
Unfortunately for the Sting that is where the good news would end on this night.
The Whalers came out firing in the second scoring two goals to take the lead into the third.
The Sting would press in the third period but were turned away at every attempt by Nie, the games eventual first star.
The Whalers would get an insurance marker mid way through the frame to make good for the 3-1 victory.
The Sting dont have to wait long to avenge the loss at home, as the Barrie Colts come to town tonight to wrap up the Sting’s week.
