Sting Down 2-0 Heading Back To Kitchener
Sarnia – The Sarnia Sting have proven they are more then capable of playing with the Kitchener Rangers, unfortunately the results have not yet matched their effort as the Sting find themselves trailing the Kitchener Rangers 2-0 in their best of seven series following a 4-3 defeat at the SSEC Friday night.
Friday night would start out the same as Thursday night with the visiting team jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by Jakub Kindl and Justin Azevedo.
The Rangers appeared to have most of the momentum in the first although the Sting would pick up the physical play later in the period and started to get the SSEC faithful back into the game and all of that would climax when Steve Ferry would throw a thundering check on Rangers top player Steve Downie that shattered the glass much to the delight of the fans.
The broken glass would force the teams to the dressing room as the 2:46 remaining the period would be played following the re-surfacing of the ice.
The Sting would take full advantage of the momentum swing coming out after the break and would manage to get on the board with just nine seconds left in the first when Ryan Wilson found the back of the net making the score 2-1 after the first period.
The Sting penalty killers led by Trevor Kell and Mike Roelofsen would then go to work keeping the Sting in the game through a full two minute 5 on 3 disadvantage once again giving the Sting a momentum shift in the game.
Fittingly enough it would be Kell who would draw the Sting even at the 7:49 mark and the roof was ready to blow off the SSEC as the Sting appeared to have taken control of the game.
The Sting would keep coming at the Rangers and as was just a matter of time Justin DiBenedetto would capatilize on the Sting’s only 5 on 3 advantage compared to the three that the Rangers would enjoy in the game.
The DiBenedetto goal would give the Sting a 3-2 lead heading into the third.
In the third Kitchener would seize back the momentum when Azevedo would score his second of the game and then rookie Robert Bortuzzo who scored twice all season was the unlikely hero scoring the game winner at 3:05 of the third.
The series now shifts back to the Aud in Kitchener on Sunday at 7:00. The Sting will need to come up with another big effort but a different result as they will be right back in the series with a win in Kitchener.
