Sting comeback falls short
BELLEVILLE – After a rough start to the Eastern Road Trip last night in Ottawa, the Sting fought hard in a 4 to 3 loss to the Bulls.
Despite a rocky first period that saw them trailing 3-0, the Sting put together a strong final 40 minutes.
Belleville came out hard in the first period outshooting the Sting 18-5. Without a stellar period from Sting goaltender Taylor Dupuis, the score could have been much worse.
Coach Letowski got the players fired up during the first intermission as they came out in the second period much stronger.
Rookie Noah Bushnell got the team on the board just 3:10 into the second on an excellent tip in front of Belleville goalie Charlie Graham. The goal was his third of the season. Just 1:34 later Nick Latta buried his 31st of the season to bring the Sting within one goal.
The third period was full of end-to-end action as it saw Daniel Nikandrov tie the game up at 3 going hard to the net for a rebound at 8:05. With scoring chances going both ways in the final minutes the Sting got a golden chance as Hayden Hodgson ripped a shot off the post. This proved critical as Vancouver Canucks prospect Jordan Subban scored what proved to be the game winning goal at 19:28 of the third period to give the Bulls a 4-3 lead. With Dupuis pulled the Sting could not muster the tying goal as the final buzzer went.
