Sting Close Out First Half With .500 Weekend
Saginaw, MI – The first half of the season has come and gone, and now all Sting players have returned home for a week off to rest and recharge their batteries as the team gears up for a strong second half and a playoff push.
Saturday night the Sting showed some of the effects of a three game in three day stretch as they were defeated 3-1 by the Saginaw Spirit in Saginaw.
The loss came on the heels of being undefeated through the first two games of the weekend tieing the Guelph Storm 2-2 Thursday night and then defeating the same Saginaw Spirit Friday night 5-1 at the SSEC.
The Sting did carry the play on Saturday night to the Spirit once again outshooting their opponent this time by a 2-1 margin but were stymied at every turn by Saginaw goaltender Jeff Weber looking to make up for his performance Friday in Sarnia.
Richard Clune was the lone Sting goal scorer as he beat Weber 2:50 into the second period for his 11th on the season.
The Sting will assemble at the SSEC on the 27th following the week off and tune up for it’s next game being December 30th in Plymouth.
