Penalties Cost Sting Vs. Knights
Sarnia, ON – It was one of the most anticipated match ups of the season for Sting fans.
Ever since the January 10th trade deadline many had this date marked on the calendar, as it would see the return of long time Sting forward Danny Fritsche to the SSEC as a member of his new team, the London Knights.
The Sting were a fired up group and came out flying to open the game crashing and banging every green shirt in sight.
Unfortunately for the Sting referee Mark Hicks would penalize the home team for their aggressive play calling 11 minor penalties to just 4 minors given to the Knights.
The powerplay would prove to be the difference in the game with London scoring all 4 goals while a man up.
Danny Syvret would open the scoring 6:10 into the first when his shot found it’s way to the back of the net through a maze of legs in front of Sting starting netminder Ryan Munce.
The second period would see the Knights score 2 more on the powerplay on goals by Corey Perry and Dylan Hunter giving London a 3-0 lead after 40 minutes.
The Knights would cap off the scoring in the third as Corey Perry broke down the right side and beat Munce with a slapshot high over his left shoulder making it 4-0 London.
Thats how it would wind up as Knights goaltender Gerald Coleman made 30 saves for the shut out.
The Sting will regroup Friday night as the Sault Ste Marie Greyhounds visit the SSEC for their final visit of the season. Game time is 7:30.
