Depleted Sting Put In Solid Effort Vs Knights
Sarnia, ON – Playing one of the leagues top teams minus your top forward and one of your best denfensemen would prove to be a daunting task for any team in the OHL.
Friday night the Sting took on the London Knights missing top scorer and rookie sensation Mark Katic but managed to make the Knights work in what proved to be an entertaining contest despite the Sting coming up short in an 8-5 final.
The Sting playing with 18 players rather then the usual 20 were actually down 5-1 at one point but battled back to close within 1 at one point before the Knights scored 2 late goals.
The Sting would actually get 5 goals from 5 different players.
Rookie Jared Gomes continued his hot second half with the opening goal while Jamie Fraser, Ryan McInerney, Brandon Mashinter and Kyle Tront rounded out the Sting scoring.
For Tront it was his first career goal in the OHL having missed half the season due to injury.
Powerplays would prove to be a major part of the game with the Sting each time scoring 4 times with the man advantage.
The Sting look to get into the win column when they take the show to the road Saturday night in Saginaw.
