Battalion Too Much For Sting In Third Period
Brampton, ON The Sarnia Sting ended the third game of a three game in four day road trip Sunday in Brampton. Unfortunately for the Sting they would come out on the wrong side of a 5-2 decision.
The game would be a close tight checking affair for the first forty minutes with the Sting actually outplaying the first place Battalion. The Sting would have the lead in the game twice as they were up 1-0 in the first period and as well 2-1 late in the second.
Credit to the Battalion who showed a lot of resiliency throughout the game coming back on the Sting after going down by a goal both times and never trailing by more then one at any point in the game.
The Battalion would break the contest open in the third period scoring a pair of goals early into the frame giving them a lead they would not surrender. The home team would add an empty net goal for good measure and the 5-2 final.
Scoring for the Sting was Richard Clune (17th ) and Steve Savor (5th).
For the Battalion it was Brock McPherson stealing the show, beating Sting starting goaltender Mike Iafrate twice then scoring the empty netter for the hat trick. Single Battalion goals went to Tyler Harrison and Howie Martin.
The Sting will continue its long stretch of road games with back-to-back nights out on the road once again in the upcoming week. Thursday night in Windsor then Friday in London at the John Labatt Centre to take on the top ranked Knights.
The next game at the SSEC for the Sting will be in one week when the Soo Greyhounds visit next Sunday; game time is at 6:00
