Sting Sign 2023 Third Round Pick Lane Sim To Standard Player Agreement
Sarnia, ON. – Sarnia Sting General Manager Dylan Seca announced today that the Hockey Club has signed 5’6, centreman Lane Sim to an Ontario Hockey League (OHL) Standard Player Agreement.
A familiar name to Sting Nation, the New Glasgow, Nova Scotia native was selected by the Club in the third round, 53rd overall, of the 2023 OHL Priority Selection. Sim had 16 goals and 29 assists for 45 total points in 33 regular season games played with the Weeks Majors U18 AAA team. He added 10 goals and 10 assists through 10 playoff games played for the Pictou County-based team and finished tied for his team’s scoring lead with four points in five games at the Canadian U18 club championship. Sim also represented Nova Scotia at the Canada Winter Games.
Sim lives and plays in Nova Scotia but was eligible for the OHL draft because his father, Jon Sim, played in the league. Jon Sim played for the Sting between 1994 and 1998. Jon was the most prolific goal scorer in the franchise’s early years in Sarnia and remains one its all-time leader in points and goals today. He impressively scored 56 goals in back-to-back seasons and was the OHL goal scoring leader in the 1996-97 season. Following his junior career Jon had a very successful professional career which included 12 seasons in the National Hockey League, a Stanley Cup championship with the Dallas Stars, as well as championships in both the American Hockey League and Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL).
On the signing of Sim, Seca shares:
“This is an exciting day for the Sarnia Sting and the Sim family. We see tremendous upside in him as a player. He combines a strong mixture of skill and competitiveness in his game. Something we know Sting fans will enjoy watching. We’d like to welcome Lane and the Sim family to Sting Nation.”
