Late Goals Propels Peterborough Past Sarnia 5-3

The Peterborough Petes (11-7-1-1) scored late goals in the second and third periods, and they were the difference makers as they beat the Sarnia Sting (6-9-3-1), 5-3, Thursday night at The Peterborough Memorial Centre. The Petes scored two goals 23 seconds apart, with less than two minutes to go in the middle stanza and then added an empty net goal in the third period at 18:03, to put the game out of reach. Brody Partridge’s goal at 18:39 in the second stanza proved to be the game winning tally. Scoring was up and down with Peterborough netting one goal in the first and third, and three more in the second period. Sarnia scored all three of their goals in the middle frame. Mitch Young (2nd), Easton Walos (9th) and Alessandro Di lorio (3rd) scored for the Sting. Walos, who was the OHL rookie of the week (Nov. 3-9), was selected as the third star, as he continued to be on a heater, extending his point streak to seven games (5-6-11). Young has a three game point streak (2-3-5) and Di lorio scored his third goal, since returning from an injury, two games ago. Lukas Fischer (St. Louis Blues), Kase Kamzik, Liam Beamish, Beckham Edwards, Jordan Bax and Hughston Hurt, were also productive, contributing one assist each. Fischer now has a four game point streak (1-3-4).
The Sting power-play continued to score at over 50 percent, over a current seven game goal streak, which includes tonight’s one for two effort, going 12/23 overall with the man- advantage. Patrick Quinlan turned away 22 of 26 shots in net for the Sting. Sarnia lead by a wide margin on the shot clock 39-27. Colin Fitzgerald scored twice and was the first star and 2025 OHL first overall Priority draft pick Kaden McGregor, was named as the second star with a pair of helpers. Peterborough’s Easton Rye stopped 36 of 39 shots. Grayden Strohack also added two assists. Sarnia out-shot Peterborough 10-6, but it was the Petes scoring the only goal in the first period. The goal came late at 17:40. Fitzgerald won a clean face-off, with the puck coming back to the blue line. Strohack came up with the puck and his shot was tipped by Fitzgerald in front. There was only one minor penalty as the Petes were assessed a delay of game infraction. The second period featured lots of goals as the two teams combined for six goals, three aside. Sarnia wasted no time tying the game at 1-1, just 36 seconds in. Beamish came up with the puck after winning a battle behind the net and he feed Kamzik along the half boards. Kamzik sent a pass back to Young and his shot rang off the goal post and in.
The Sting were assessed a minor penalty a few minutes later and it took the Petes 11 seconds to go back in front at 4:07, on Fitzgerald’s second of the game. Walos continued his hot scoring as he tied the game at 2-2 at 6:49. Hurt got the puck to Bax and he sent a perfect pass to Walos, who let go a rocket for the equalizer. The Sting went ahead for the first time at 10:46 on a power-play goal from Di lorio. Edwards got the puck to Fischer and he set up Di lorio, who scored on a one timer. The Petes were not finished as they scored twice, 23 seconds apart on goals from Leon Kolarik on the power-play at 18:16 and Partridge at 18:39. Sarnia was better on the shot clock 15-8.
