The Montreal Canadiens owned the third selection in the 2012 draft and they took centre Alex Galchenyuk, who ranked fourth among North American-based skaters.

The six-foot, 198-pound Galchenyuk was limited to just eight games this season with the Sarnia Sting because of a torn ACL.

He finished second in OHL scoring in 2010-11 behind Yakupov, his linemate in Sarnia, with 83 points (31-52).

“I knew what kind of skill I have, what kind of player I am,” said Galchenyuk. “I’m just going to keep working hard. I played a couple of games at the end of the year and showed what I am capable of doing, I went to the combine and showed them my knee is no concern and there are going to be no issues.”

“French lessons start in a couple of days,” added Galchenyuk.
