Alan Millar Named New Sting GM
General Manager led Team Ontario To It’s First Championship Since 1997 at World Under 17 Championships
Sarnia, ON- The Sarnia Sting Hockey Club has announced that Alan Millar will replace Terry Doran as General Manager of the club effective immediately.
Millar has served most recently as General Manager with Team Ontario, which captured Gold going 5-0-1 at the World Under 17 Hockey Challenge, defeating Team Pacific in the final game. The victory was the first since 1997 for Team Ontario.
This past season Millar served along side Dave Cameron as a Consultant with the Toronto St. Michael’s Majors who won the East Division title this season and had advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals before being downed by the Mississauga Ice Dogs in 7 games.
Millar had served previously as the General Manager of the Guelph Storm from 1997 throughout the 2002-2003 season, and was instrumental in their most recent OHL Championship having drafted or acquired via trade or free agency 14 players on the current Storm roster.
Millar does have his own OHL Championship to his credit as he Managed the1998 Storm club that went on to the Memorial Cup only to lose in overtime of the final game to the Portland Winter Hawks.
Overall in his 6 years with the Storm Millar compiled a record of 215-149-37-6 and had a playoff record of 30-24.
Prior to joining the Storm Millar was a member of the Calgary Flames organization serving as Director of Operations for its AHL affiliate in Saint John.
The Sting would like to wish outgoing General Manager Terry Doran all the best in his future endeavors. Terry has been a very loyal and respected member of this team. He has helped formed a good nucleus here but we feel Alan will help us take the next step toward the future that we are striving for, said Sting President and Governor Robert Ciccarelli.
Millar will start immediately and attend the Sting Awards Ceremony, Friday evening. He will also oversee the team’s mini camp on Saturday at the SSEC.
Allan and Kelly will be seeking residence in Sarnia in the weeks to come.
