SARNIA, ON – Despite a spirited comeback attempt, the Sarnia Sting dropped Game #3 of the best-of-seven series by a score of 5-3 on Monday night.
The Sting were once again without starting goaltender, Justin Fazio who suffered a lower body injury during warm-ups on Saturday. Rookie netminder, Aidan Hughes turned aside 35 of 39 shots in the loss.
Arizona Coyotes’ draft pick Dylan Strome opened the scoring with a powerplay marker at 1:23 of the first period. Strome’s 3rd of the post-season was assisted by Darren Raddysh and Alex DeBrincat.
Jordan Ernst evened the score with his team-high 3rd of the playoffs less than 4:00 later. Ernst jammed in a loose puck at the goal mouth to tie the game with the assists going to Jeff King and Jordan Kyrou.
Darren Raddysh scored his first of two on the night just 5:41 into the second period to give the Otters a 2-1 lead. The goal was Erie’s second of three powerplay goals on the night with assists beind awarded to Alex DeBrincat and Dylan Strome.
DeBrincat and Raddysh would round out the second period scoring for the Otters and they would take a 4-1 lead into the second intermission.
Kevin Spinozzi’s powerplay goal would get the Sting within two at 8:59 of the third period. His third of the post-season redirected off of a defender’s body and found it’s way past Troy Timpano. Assists were credited to Adam Ruzicka and Jeff King.
With 3:18 remaining in the game, Jaden Lindo tipped home his first of the post-season to get the Sting within one. Spinozzi and Rymsha picked up the assists.
Pettit tallied an empty-net goal to round out the scoring with just 0:01 remaining in the contest.
The two teams will faceoff again on Wednesday night at the Erie Insurance Arena for Game #4 of the series. Game #5 is slated for Friday night in Erie if necessary.
