SAGINAW, MI – The Sting saw their 3-game winning streak come to an end at the hands of the Saginaw Spirit on Thursday night at the Dow Event Center. Evan Cormier backstopped the Spirit to a 3-0 win on home ice; turning all 27 shots faced aside.
The Sting got off to a sluggish start with only two shots on goal in the opening frame. Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the period and the two teams headed to the dressing room knotted at 0’s.
Kris Bennett opened the scoring for the Spirit at 7:49 of the second period after taking a pass from former Sting forward, Hayden Hodgson. Hodgson would score his first of two on the night with less than two minutes remaining in the period to give the home side a 2-0 lead through 40:00 of play.
The Sting would come on strong with 12 shots on goal in the third period but were unable to solve Cormier who was stellar in goal for Saginaw. Hodgson picked up his second of the night with Justin Fazio on the bench in the dying minutes of the third.
The Sting will enjoy a day off tomorrow before playing host to the London Knights on Saturday night at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena. On Saturday, the Sting will don specialty specialty jerseys for the annual Ugly Christmas Sweater game – presented by Mainstreet Credit Union. Following the game, 8 of the game-worn jerseys will be up for grabs via a live auction. The remainder will be available for bid on the CHL Auctions page. All proceeds from the auctions will be donated back to the Inn of the Good Shepherd.
Fans who plan on attending Saturday’s game are encouraged to wear an ugly sweater of their own. Mainstreet Credit Union will be set up with a photo booth at the south end of the building and plan on awarding the fan with the best Ugly Sweater a great prize package. Game details
