Flint at Sarnia Game Preview – November 30
Written by Mateya Steblaj-Wood
This afternoon, the Sarnia Sting will face off against the Flint Firebirds before hitting the road for their next five games.
The Sting are coming off a 6-2 loss against the Soo Greyhounds on Friday despite a hard battle and strong effort. This was the Sting’s first game back from playing five games on the road, and first with new head coach Mathieu Turcotte.
This afternoon is our annual Teddy Bear Toss game in partnership with Finch Ford to help provide a Christmas gift to youth in our community. After the first Sarnia goal of the game, the crowd is encouraged to throw plush animals onto the ice, which will be collected and donated. The coveted Teddy Bear Goal is something fans and players alike look forward to, and guesses are placed on which player will get it done.
Beckham Edwards scored last year’s Teddy Bear Goal and is looking to take the title again. Friday’s game was Edwards’ first back since competing in the CHL USA Prospects Challenge alongside teammate Alessandro Di Iorio. In a post-morning-skate interview, he said his experience was “I think I learned a lot about what it takes to be a pro from this tournament.”. Edwards and Di Iorio earned silver for Team CHL in the challenge against Team USA. He also said, “It’s given me a lot of confidence coming back to Sarnia. I want to play my best hockey and continue the momentum I built while there”.
This afternoon, the Sting will look to build off a successful power play to drive the team to a win. One player to watch out for ack Van Volsen has been a prominent figure on the power play unit, recording five power-play goals so far this season.
Puck drop is set for 2:05 PM at Progressive Auto Sales Arena.
