KNIGHTS ANNOUNCE COACHING CHANGE
The London Knights have announced the hiring of Daren Machesney as the team’s goaltending coach. Machesney has been with the team as a goaltending scout for the past four seasons.
“We are very pleased to be bringing in Daren as our full-time goaltending coach,” said the Knights’ General Manager, Rob Simpson. “Daren will be a strong addition to our coaching staff where he will be able to bring his professional playing experience and years of coaching knowledge to our goaltenders now and in the future.”
Machesney previously played in the Ontario Hockey League for the Brampton Battalion from 2003-2006. He was selected by the Washington Capitals in the fifth round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. Following his OHL career, the Hamilton, Ontario native continued his career to the AHL where he would go on to play in parts of five seasons between 2006-2011.
Daren Machesney will be taking over the full-time role from previous coach, Dave Rook. Rook will be stepping away from the Knights to focus on his commitments as goalie development coach with the Nashville Predators and Owner of Pure Hockey Goaltending. Rook was a member of both the 2005 and 2016 MasterCard Memorial Cup Championship teams.
“We are all very thankful and grateful for the incredible work Dave has done with the Knights over the past 15 years,” continued Simpson. “The passion, time, and guidance that he has committed to the Knights has been unmatched. Playing a very instrumental role in both of our Memorial Cup Championships, we are pleased to have had Dave with us and wish him all of the best in his future endeavors.”
