Game Recap: Kingston (4) at Owen Sound (3) – Final
Matthew Soto’s two first period power play goals helped propel the Frontenacs to a 4-3 win on the road in Owen Sound. The victory helped the Kingston Frontenacs improve to 4-7-0-0 this season and ended a 4 game losing streak.
Owen Sound Attack’s Jake Crawford was called for a slew foot penalty on Maleek McGowan at the 12:39 mark of the first period, which put the Frontenacs on a 5 minute power play. It didn’t take long for the Frontenacs to strike on the opportunity, as Paul Ludwinski made a nice pass to an open Tyler Savard, who set up Matthew Soto in close for the tap in goal. Soto’s first power play goal came at 14:41 of the first period. 1 minute and 2 seconds later, Maddox Callens and Ethan Miedema set up Soto for another power play goal of the 5 minute major. Kingston took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.
The second period saw the Frontenacs build on their lead. Nathan Poole and Owen Outwater each snapped home goals on Corbin Votary ending his day in the crease for the Owen Sound Attack. He was replaced by Carter George. The change in net sparked Owen Sound’s attack. Madden Steen and Sam Sedley scored in the final 2 minutes of the period to cut the Frontenacs lead to 4-2 after 40 minutes of play.
Mason Vaccari was solid in net for the Frontenacs all game. The netminder made 18 saves in the first two frames and he had to be sharp in the third as the Attack looked to comeback. Mason stopped 14 of 15 shots in the third period. The only shot that beat him was a power play goal by Cedrick Guindon at the 17:48 mark of the final period. Mason finished the game with 32 saves to backstop the Frontenacs to a 4-3 win.
