Two Quick Goals Pace Ottwa to Win Over Fronts
Dalton Smith scored two goals in 39 seconds in the first period to help lead the Ottwa 67’s to a 5-2 victory over the Fronts. Nathan Moon moved into a tie with Brad Rhiness in the all-time Kingston goal scoring records and moved to within one goal of fan favorite David Ling, but it wasn’t enough for the Fronts on this night.
Moon’s goal, his team leading seventh of the season gave Kingston the early lead midway through the opening period, but the first of Smith’s two goals in 39 seconds occurred just 11 seconds after Moon’s goal and the 67’s took a 2-1 lead into the third period, as neither team could find the back of the net in the second period.
The Fronts increased the offensive pressure in the third period in a bid to get the tying goal, but it was Ottawa who was able to increase their lead, as Tyler Toffoli scored on a breakaway to give Ottawa 3-1 lead. Tyler Graovac scored less than a minute later to give Ottawa a 4-1 lead. The Fronts responded 27 seconds later, as Alan Quine fed a nice pass to Mitch Lebar across the crease for his first of the season, but it was not enough, as Shane Prince scored into an empty net to give the Ottawa a 5-2 victory over the Fronts. Both Kingston goaltender Philipp Grubauer and Ottawa goaltender Petr Mrazek were solid in net making some terrific saves on the night.
Kingston will host Peterborough on Friday night at the K-Rock Centre at 7:30PM, before heading up north, for their northern road trip to Sault Ste Marie and Sudbury on Sunday and Tuesday.
