TEAM FINLAND ON LAMMIKKO’S MIND

Around a Kingston Frontenacs practice, there isn’t a player enjoying it more than Juho Lammikko.

Whether he is shouting across the ice to Spencer Watson for a nice setup or just plain celebrating when he finishes off a play on either of his goaltending teammates, Lucas Peressini or Jeremy Helvig, Lammikko is one of those whistle-while-he-works players.

Tuesday at practice was no exception for Lammikko. The 19-year-old native of Noormarkku, Finland, is excited to be flying home Friday as an invite to Team Finland’s world junior hockey entry.

It’s doubly exciting for Lammikko and the Finnish players — there are three other Ontario Hockey League-based Finns going to the selection camp — since Finland is hosting the world junior championship in Helsinki, beginning Dec. 26.

“It’s nice to get there. I will work hard to make the team,” said Lammikko, who said that of the 29 players going to head coach Jukka Jalonen’s camp, he is familiar with most of them.
