Gudbranson Scores, as Canada Defeats Russia

Kingston Frontenacs star defenseman Erik Gudbranson scored his first goal of the World Junior Tournament, as he helped Team Canada to a 6-3 victory over Russia. Gudbranson unloaded a rocket of a one time blast from the point in the second period, to vault Canada ahead 3-2 at the time. The Russian’s would tie the game a short while later, but Canada would close out the game with three un-answered goals to earn their first victory of the tournament.

Canada got goals from fellow Ontario Hockey League players, Marcus Foligno of the Sudbury Wolves and Ryan Ellis of the Windsor Spitfires. Brayden Schenn, Ryan Johansen and Curtis Hamilton also scored for Canada, while Oliver Roy went the distance in goal.

Canada’s next game is on Tuesday night, when they will face off against the Czech Republic at 4:00PM.
