Game Preview: Kingston vs. Flint
The Kingston Frontenacs (12-11-1-1) take on the West Division Flint Firebirds (14-9-2-1) this afternoon at 2:00 pm at Leon’s Centre in the final of two matchups between the altered-Conferenced foes. Today is Superhero themed with first responders, health care workers, essential workers, and their family members joining the Frontenacs for a day of fun at the rink. We will have family fun activities and cosplay characters on the main concourse before and during the game. Gabriela Frasca had two goals on Teddy Bear Toss night versus the Battalion, and Francesco Arcuri extended a point streak to six games, leading into today’s action.
The Black and Gold look to get back on the winning side after a pair of tightly contested losses versus Mississauga and at home to North Bay on Friday night. Francesco Arcuri extended a point streak to six games (9G,4A) and enters todays action as the only player in the league to have hit the 20-goal mark with a league-leading 22.
Kingston took a 3-1 win over the Firebirds in Flint in the only other matchup for the clubs this season on November 4 on the strength of a 41-save performance by rookie netminder Mason Vaccari. Chris Thibodeau, Arcuri and Paul Hughes had the tallies for Kingston, helping earn the win to improve to a 4-3-0-0 record against the Firebirds over the past five seasons. Two of those three wins by Flint have come at Leon’s Centre, however.
Flint’s 6-2 loss in their last game to Ottawa on Dec 2 ended a three-game winning stretch. Kingston native Reed Gee scored his first OHL goal in the Firebirds’ previous game on November 26 against Sarnia. Amadeus Lombardi (34) leads the Firebird attack joining Fronts’ Arcuri in the top-15 league point-getters, with Lombardi also pacing the Firebirds with 14 goals as one of five double-digit goal scorers.
The Frontenacs Hockey Club is pleased to announce that Maleek McGowan underwent successful surgery last Night after an unfortunate injury on Friday night. He is in stable condition, safe and on the road to recovery. We thank our training and medical staff led by Chris Nelson and Dr. Jennifer Hacking, the North Bay Battalion training staff, the onsite paramedics, Leon’s Centre staff, and the medical team at Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KGH) for their immediate attention in treating and caring for Maleek. The team is thankful and appreciative to all the fans and supporters around the OHL for all the positive wishes.
