FRONTS WIN 5TH STRAIGHT
The Kingston Frontenacs are flying high, picking up their fifth straight win, with a 5-4 shoot-out victory over the Niagara Icedogs. Captain Cody Alcock responded in a big way, scoring the games opening goal just 75 seconds into the game, by jumping on a rebound and beating Chris Festarini in the Niagara goal.
“He was flying out there, starting with his first shift. He picked everyone up,” said rookie forward Spencer Watson.
Newly acquired Sam Povorozniouk scored the games second goal and his first in his debut for the Frontenacs. Henri Ikonen gave the black and gold a 3-0 lead early in the second period, but Niagara’s Brett Ritchie scored a power play marker to cut into the Fronts lead. Darcy Greenaway restored the three goal cushion but three unaswered goals by Niagara, one in the second and a pair in the third from Brock Hiddink, Anthony DiFruscia and Ritchie.
“We wanted to get to the overtime and at least earn a point. We’ve been lights out in the shootout this year.” said Head Coach Gill
The Fronts hit the road for four games in the coming week, beginning Tuesday night in Ottawa, before heading down south to play Plymouth, Saginaw and Windsor on the weekend.
“We’ve done what we needed to do at home,” said Gill. “Now it’s time to do the same on the road, which is a different beast.”
