Draft Profile: Matthew Soto
With their second 5th overall pick in as many years, the Kingston Frontenacs selected right-winger Matthew Soto from the Oakville Rangers program. Known for his determined work ethic and stellar Hockey-IQ, Soto scored 21 goals and 44 points in 34 games for Oakville’s U15 team in 2019-20.
He is a very agile skater with slick stick skills, which help him make unpredictable plays. While he is not the fastest skater, he is working hard to improve his speed to match his skills. He is a fantastic finisher in front of the net and already boasts a shot with power and quality well above his peers.
Standing at 5’11’ and 160 lbs, Soto models his game after Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner while also looking up to legendary National Football League quarterback Tom Brady. After being picked 5th overall, Soto also joins the Frontenacs’ “5th Pick Club,” featuring Cory Stillman, Lawson Crouse and Paul Ludwinski.
