TED NICHOL
After being drafted in the 4th round, 65th overall in 2013, Ted Nichol has earned every minute of ice time through his hard work. After playing 6 games as a call up in 2013-14, Nichol earned a full roster spot the following season. He earned his first career point in his first OHL game on December 14, 2013 against the Sarnia Sting. He scored his first OHL goal against the Ottawa 67’s on January 11, 2015. Nichol set a career high in points during the 2016-17 season (38) while making it clear that he would become the 41st captain in the organizations history for the 2017-18 season. Ted Nichol contributes in every area of the game. While capable of chipping in on the scoresheet, he is an incredible penalty killer that is never afraid to sacrifice his body to block a shot or take a hit. His leadership qualities in the dressing room are undeniable, and that also extends into his work in the Kingston community.
LIAM MURRAY
Although Liam Murray wasn’t originally drafted by the Kingston Frontenacs, it didn’t take long for him to become a fan favourite. On December 10, 2015, Kingston sent a 3rd round pick to the Windsor Spitfires for Murray. His physical style of play was a needed piece for the Kingston defensive core and it excited fans from his first shift onward. Liam Murray may have a mean game on the ice, but his off-ice community involvement shows what kind of a person he is at heart. In November he launched the “Liam Murray Remembers” program to help raise awareness for the Alzheimer’s Society. Alzheimer’s is a disease close to Murray as it’s something his grandfather suffers from. Liam, along with his teammates, made it a priority to help educate the community about the characteristics of the disease. Whether it is hockey or elsewhere, Liam Murray is sure to see success in life because of the class act he is.
JEREMY HELVIG
During his time as GM, Doug Gilmour made a commitment to developing goaltenders within the organization. Kingston drafted Jeremy Helvig in the 3rd round of the 2013 OHL Priority Selection and Helvig has made that decision pay off. When he earned his first OHL win on Feb 25, 2015 against the Belleville Bulls, fans had no idea that it would be the first on his path to set the franchise record for wins. During his time in Kingston, Helvig has set franchise records for wins (80) and shutouts (10). He was also part of a tandem with Lucas Peressini that set a team record for fewest goals against in a season during the 2015-16 season (189). In his overage season he currently sits in the top 5 for wins (30), GAA (2.59) and leads the OHL in Save % (0.918). Helvig was drafted in the 5th round, 134th overall by the Carolina Hurricanes and will hope to move into their system after completing his overage year in Kingston.
