Game Day Preview: KGN vs. OSH
The Kingston Frontenacs (37-20-3-0) are back on home ice tonight at 7:00 pm, taking on the Oshawa Generals (27-29-1-5) at Leon’s Centre. The Fronts look to keep pace with Mississauga in the Eastern Conference after a 6-4 loss in Peterborough on Thursday night. Head coach Luca Caputi’s team is tied for third place with the Steelheads, who battle the Ottawa 67’s tonight. Since a 5-4 Kingston victory in the last game with Oshawa on Mar 20, Kingston has seen a pair of wins split between two losses with seven wins in their last ten. Tonight, marks the 11th of 12 matchups between the rivals, with the Black and Gold holding a 7-2-1-0 edge, winning six straight over the Gens.
Fronts Feats
Martin Chromiak scored twice in the 5-4 Mar 20th win over Oshawa as one of three games the winger has scored multi-goals in the last five. The LA Kings prospect has continued his hot stretch with goals in three straight games and a good chance of success tonight, leading all shooters with ten goals in the season series. His 17 points are second to Shane Wright (6G,17A), who has accumulated 23 in ten games with the Generals.
Zayde Wisdom, riding the second-longest assist streak in the league (5-gms) is one point away from 100 career OHL points. The Philadelphia Flyers prospect has been getting better every game since returning from injury, providing another weapon for coach Caputi to utilize with three multi-point games in his last five.
With an assist in last nights game in Peterborough, Lucas Edmonds became the first Kingston skater to reach the 100-point milestone in a season since Eric Himelfarb registered 107 in 2003/04. The overage North Bay native sits fourth in OHL scoring and tied for the league lead in powerplay-points (38).
Gens Grasping
The struggling Gens have lost three straight entering action on Thursday. All three wins in their last 16 matchups came in extra time and included a seven-game losing stretch that ended Mar 13. While sitting two points up on seventh-place Ottawa 67’s in sixth spot, Oshawa is in a battle for seeding. Eighth place Peterborough is just five behind the Gens.
