Game Notes: Kingston vs Oshawa – Sept 27/24
For the first time in the 2024/25 season your Kingston Frontenacs are hitting the ice at Slush Puppie Place for a regular season game. After a dominant 7-2 victory on the road in Peterborough last night, the Fronts quickly reset and play host to the Oshawa Generals in their Home Opener presented by Scotiabank.
Last night saw the Frontenacs fire 53 shots on net with 6 different goal scorers in the first game with the new look offense. Outside of a few undisciplined moments, Kingston controlled every part of the game and will be looking to do more of the same when the puck drops tonight. Let’s take a look at tonight’s Game Notes to get you set for tonight’s Home Opener.
Calming the Nerves
Home Openers always have a bigger feeling around them compared to other games. It’s the first time you play meaningful hockey in front of your home crowd, especially when expectations have been raised for the new season. Calming the nerves and sticking to their game in the opening 5-10 minutes of the first period will be important for the Frontenacs if they want to come away with another two points tonight.
What Generals team will we see?
The Oshawa Generals come into tonight as the reigning and defending OHL Eastern Conference Champions. Our long time rivals project to be even better than they were last year, as many think they overachieved last season. But what Generals team do we see tonight? Some of their big names like Calum Ritchie (COL) and Dylan Roobroeck (NYR) are still with their respective NHL teams; while Beckett Sennecke and Ben Danford are still recovering from injuries. If none of those names are back in the lineup for Oshawa tonight, it could be a great opportunity for Kingston to get the upper leg on their bitter rivals early on in the season. Watch out for Generals netminder Jacob Oster though; as he’s the reigning OHL Goaltender of the Year and can steal you a win on any given night.
Keeping the Momentum
One of the bigger issues last season for the Frontenacs was their consistency on a game-to-game basis. With more leaders in the locker room and a year of development for the young players who were here last year, Kingston should be better positioned to maintain consistency; but we don’t know for sure until we see it. If the Frontenacs can get off to a 2-0 start to their season that will go a long way for their confidence and could pay dividends later in the season as they head down the stretch and into the playoffs.
