Frontenacs acquire Jakub Chromiak from Sudbury
The Kingston Frontenacs have acquired import defenseman Jakub Chromiak from the Sudbury Wolves in exchange for future picks in the OHL Priority Selection.

Chromiak was selected 8th overall by the Wolves in the 2022 CHL Import Draft. The 6’0, 183 lbs. right shot defenseman was born in Ilava, Slovakia and is the younger brother of former Frontenacs forward Martin Chromiak. He has spent 68 games with Sudbury over two seasons, scoring 4 goals and 16 assists. Jakub has represented Slovakia at the international level countless times, most recently at the 2022 IIHF U18 World Championship.
“Jakub is a player we were very high on heading into the 2022 import draft” said Frontenacs General Manager Kory Cooper. He added “Having the opportunity to add him to our lineup now is something we wanted to jump at. He is a right shot, puck moving defenseman that adds impressive depth to our defensive group.”
Jakub has a late 2005 birthdate making him draft eligible for the 2024 NHL Entry Draft. He was recently ranked as a ‘C’ skater in the latest NHL Central Scouting release.
Cooper continued “Chromiak is a great fit into our timeline. He is available to us for multiple seasons and will be an important piece for us moving forward.” He added “Knowing the family, and being confident in the character of the player is a bonus for us. Martin was an exceptional player for the Frontenacs, and a great addition to the dressing room and the community. We are confident we will get more of the same from Jakub.”
Jakub Chromiak will join his new teammates at practice on Thursday afternoon and is expected to be in the lineup on Friday night when the Frontenacs host the Barrie Colts at Leon’s Centre. Game time is 7 PM, with a special pregame ceremony to celebrate Jim Gilchrist’s 3000th radio broadcast.
