Five storylines in tonight’s game:
Jump on Them Early
With Erie arriving for today’s match following a road game just last night, seizing an early advantage becomes paramount for the Kingston Frontenacs. The Otters boast an impeccable record of 15-0-0-0 when leading after the opening period this season. However, they falter with a 4-20-1-1 record when trailing after the first 20 minutes of play. A strong start by the Frontenacs could pave the way to securing a crucial 2 points in the standings.
Power Play Advantage
Kingston boasts a formidable edge in special teams prowess. Out of their 212 goals this season, an impressive 50 have been scored on the power play, showcasing their efficient 23.6% success rate. Conversely, Erie’s penalty kill stands at 74.9% overall, but notably dips to 67.5% on the road.
Facing off against the league’s third-worst penalty kill, Kingston must capitalize on these opportunities. In their recent 6-3 victory over Erie last Sunday, they converted 1 out of 3 power play chances, highlighting their capability to exploit defensive gaps.
Stay Hot on Home Ice
The Kingston Frontenacs are 4-2-1-0 on home ice dating back to a 10 goal performance against the Niagara IceDogs on January 26th. In that span the Black and Gold have scored 31 goals for and have been filling the stands with their new “Jodel Jump” goal song. The Frontenacs will look to remain hot on home ice tonight during Pride Night.
Player to Watch: Erie
Bruce McDonald (#92) scored twice against the Kingston Frontenacs on Sunday in Erie. The forward has collected 15 goals, 14 assists for 29 points.
Player to Watch: Kingston
Be sure to keep a close watch on Roman Schmidt tonight, as he’s proven to be a key player against the Otters this season, tallying 4 assists in their matchups. Despite having only played two games this season, once with Kitchener and once with Kingston, Schmidt, a towering defenseman, has showcased his reliability for the Frontenacs. With 6 goals, 12 assists, and a total of 18 points in just 22 games, his solid contributions have been instrumental to Kingston’s success.
