Fast Five: Kingston vs. Peterborough
The Kingston Frontenacs (21-23-1-0) are set to hit home ice this afternoon at 1:00 PM for a face-off against the Peterborough Petes (16-25-4-1). It’s Sunday Funday presented by Allstate at the Leon’s Centre, with the puck dropping an hour earlier than Kingston’s standard Sunday game time, as YourTV Kingston is promoting Hockey Day in the OHL.
This game marks the fifth meeting of the season between the two teams, with Kingston holding a 3-1-0-0 record against the Petes, including three consecutive victories. In their last three matchups, Kingston has tallied 18 goals while allowing 8. Another strong offensive performance will be crucial to propel the Frontenacs back into the win column.

Snapping a Slump
Both teams enter today’s contest looking to break slumps. Kingston has gone 3-7-0-0 in their last ten games and have been struggling to find consistency in their game over that span. The Petes on the other hand are 1-7-2-0, after selling at the trade deadline and injecting youth into their lineup. Today promises to be a competitive game, as should be expected when two division rivals square off.
Anything Can Happen in Junior Hockey
Although the Petes have had challenges getting into the win column since retooling at the trade deadline, the Maroon and White have a talented young core, able to make every game difficult. Take for example the Frontenacs game on January 11, 2024 following the deadline. The new look Petes went the distance against the Fronts and made Kingston earn the 2 points in overtime. Always remember the old saying… Anything can happen in junior hockey.
Balanced Attack and Contributions
With the playoffs in sight and wins becoming even more important for seeding at this juncture of the season, the Frontenacs will need all members of their team to step up and play to their full potential. The Black and Gold need to have all their lines playing consistent and firing on all cylinders to be successful. Playing as a team and taking care of business on both sides of the puck will require everyone to do their job as this team is capable of achieving great things when working together.
Building Confidence
It is yet to be seen who Troy Mann will turn to in net for today’s game, but it is an opportunity for either goalie to build their confidence. J.J has only played in 7 games this season and Mason is searching for his first win since January 6th. The Petes enter today’s game as the lowest scoring team in the OHL (129 GF). This game could be the start of a positive run for whichever goalie gets the nod.
Players to Watch:
Last night, the Peterborough Petes narrowly lost 5-4 in overtime to the Niagara IceDogs. One of the standout performers for the Petes was Quinton Pagé (#14), who netted two goals during the intense match. Pagé has showcased his skill in 3 previous encounters this season against the Frontenacs, tallying a goal and an assist. The Fronts will undoubtedly aim to contain Pagé and disrupt his momentum in today’s game.
On the Frontenacs side, all eyes should be on Ethan Miedema, the promising prospect affiliated with the Buffalo Sabres. Miedema is determined to break free from his recent scoring slump, having only secured 2 points in his last 10 games. However, it’s only a matter of time before his fortunes change. Stats suggest that Miedema is poised for a breakthrough performance against the Petes. In the 4 matchups this season against the Maroon and White, Miedema has already netted 4 goals, indicating his potential impact on today’s game.
