Fast Five: Kingston at Guelph
The Kingston Frontenacs are in the midst of a busy schedule, embarking on a challenging two-game road trip this weekend. The action begins tonight at 7:00 pm, as they face off against the Guelph Storm at the Sleeman Centre.
Guelph Storm is coming into tonight’s game with an impressive 5-2-0-0 record and a two-game winning streak. Kingston, on the other hand, is currently facing a three-game losing streak and will be looking to turn their fortune around against this formidable defensive team. The Storm boasts the best defensive record in the OHL, having allowed the fewest goals this season, making them a significant early-season test for the Kingston Frontenacs.
Over the past five seasons, the Storm holds a 4-2-0-0 record against the Frontenacs, underscoring their recent success in this matchup. Kingston’s most recent victory against Guelph dates back to October 15th, 2022, at Leon’s Centre when they secured a convincing 6-1 win. Notably, current Frontenacs players Paul Ludwinski, Matthew Soto, Adam Cavallin, and Owen Outwater all found the back of the net in that memorable contest.
Overcoming Adversity
In junior hockey, there is no time to sit around and lick your wounds as the Frontenacs are in the middle of a three-in-three weekend and a three-game losing streak. Every season comes with its ups and downs and it will be up to the team to come together and find a way to get back on track and do the things on the ice that led to success.
Regain That Scoring Touch
The Frontenacs scored 25 goals through their first 6 games, but the offence has gone cold since, only scoring 1 goal in the last three games. The Black and Gold will need to regain their previous scoring touch and find a balanced attack to capture 2 points against the Storm.
Only Visit to Guelph
Tonight’s game is the only visit the Kingston Frontenacs will have at the Sleeman Centre during the 2023-24 regular season. The last time the Kingston Frontenacs secured a victory on the road in Guelph was on October 25th, 2015. In that game, the Storm jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first, but thanks to three straight goals by Conor McGlynn, Chad Duchesne, and Ryan Verbeek the Fronts capped off a 3-2 comeback win.
Storm in K-Town
The Guelph Storm will make their sole trip to Kingston on November 4th, 2023. This is a special game night as it is Special Olympics Night. The Kingston Frontenacs, LETR and Special Olympics Ontario are teaming up to raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics athletes. The event will be a joint effort between the Kingston Frontenacs, Law Enforcement Torch Run, Special Olympics Ontario and Special Olympics Kingston.
Behind Enemy Lines: Guelph Storm
The Guelph Storm are off to a great start this season thanks to the focus on team defence. Through their first 7 games to start this season, the Storm have held their opponents to 2 goals or less in 5 of their 7 matchups. Guelph’s only two defeats this season came in games in which they surrendered more than 2 goals. Forward, Braeden Bowman leads the offence with 8 points (3G,5A) and he is followed closely by defenceman Michael Buchinger’s 7 points (3G,4A). Storm’s goalie Brayden Gillespie leads the OHL with a 1.86 goals against average and a 0.936 save percentage.
