Marking a Historic Call
Long-time Frontenacs radio play-by-play announcer Jim Gilchrist is set to call his 3,000th career OHL game in Kingston as the Frontenacs face the Barrie Colts. Gilchrist started with the Oshawa Generals in 1972 and has covered the Kingston Canadians, Raiders and Frontenacs since 1980. He briefly left the booth from 1993 to 2001, but has been the consistent voice of the Frontenacs since his return. Gilchrist reminisces about memorable moments, including calling the longest game in OHL history in 1990 and witnessing the first goal by a goaltender in Canadian Hockey League history in 1986. The Frontenacs will be honouring Jim’s milestone moment all game long.
100 Games for Poole
When Nathan Poole takes the Leon’s Centre ice tonight in front of the home crowd, he’ll be skating in his 100th career OHL game. Poole was originally drafted in the third round of the 2020 OHL Priority Selection by Kingston. Oshawa, ON native made his OHL debut on October 8th, 2021 when the Frontenacs hosted the Ottawa 67’s. In 99 games, Poole has scored 11 goals and collected 7 assists for 18 points.
Familiar Face in 71
Tyler Savard will be facing off against his former team for the first time since being acquired from Barrie before the 2023-24 season kicked off. The overage forward skated in 26 games for Barrie, scoring 8 goals and adding 9 assists. Savard was brought into Barrie for their 2023 playoff push. Tyler played a big role for the Colts in 13 playoff games, registering 4 goals and 7 assists for 11 points.
Welcoming Chromiak
Jakub Chromiak is expected to make his Kingston Frontenacs debut tonight. The import defenceman was acquired in a trade from the Sudbury Wolves on Wednesday, November 1st. The younger brother of former Frontenacs forward Martin Chromiak had spent 68 games with Sudbury over two seasons, scoring 4 goals and 16 assists. Jakub has represented Slovakia at the international level countless times, most recently at the 2022 IIHF U18 World Championship. Chromiak will wear number 7 with the Frontenacs.
Still a Mann Down
The Frontenacs will still be without Troy Mann behind the bench tonight as the head coach serves his final game of his two-game suspension. Chris Longo and Kory Cooper (GM) will be behind the bench tonight as the pair also took the roles on October 28th in Mississauga. Maddox Callens also remains out and will be eligible to return tomorrow night against Guelph at the Leon’s Centre.
