Graduating Players: Recognizing and Congratulating Baker, Roach and McLaren
The Kingston Frontenacs Hockey Club would like to recognize our graduating players.
We want to congratulate Dawson Baker, Jacob Roach and Cole McLaren on completing their junior hockey careers. All three players demonstrated exceptional commitment and dedication to the sport of hockey. In doing so, we believe each player is set up for success during the next chapter of their lives.
Dawson Baker (OHL, 2016-2020)
The 6’0” winger from Baltimore, Ontario was selected in the 4th round (#63) of the 2016 OHL Priority Selection by the Sudbury Wolves. Dawson played two seasons in Sudbury before being acquired by the Kingston Frontenacs at the beginning of the 2018-19 season.
From the moment Baker arrived in Kingston, he was the boost of energy the team needed. His hard-nosed style of hockey allowed him to get to the tough areas of the ice, aggravate opponents and chip in offensively. He was never one to shy away from the physical side of the game and he thrived at it. In 194 career OHL games, Dawson scored 33 goals and collected 20 assists for 53 points. He set a career mark in goals during the 2019-20 season with 18.
Dawson’s personality will be missed by teammates, coaches and staff. He is often described as the funniest player on the team. We all can’t wait to see what comes next for Dawson.
Jacob Roach (OHL, 2019-2020)
A 20-year-old from Brooklin, Ont., Roach spent the 2019-20 season with the Guelph Storm, recording 23 points (12-11–23) over 60 games. He joined Guelph following an impressive 2018-19 campaign with the St. Catharines Falcons Jr. B club, recording 93 points (29-64–93) over 47 games before tacking on 43 points (13-30–43) in just 17 playoff contests.
Roach was acquired by the Frontenacs in September 2020, intending to join the club for his overage season before the 2020-21 campaign was called off due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Since joining the Kingston Frontenacs, Jacob has been a tremendous teammate. He was eager to learn the system, while also being a role model for the younger players on the team.
Jacob has committed to the Brock Badgers men’s hockey program for the 2021-22 season. He’ll be studying Sport Management at Brock.
Cole McLaren (QMJHL, 2016-2021)
A 21-year-old from Valley, Nova Scotia, McLaren played his entire junior career in the QMJHL with the Halifax Mooseheads. Cole was acquired by the Kingston Frontenacs in early February and he was committed to joining the club before the 2020-21 season was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Cole appeared in seven games with the Mooseheads during the 2020-21 season, going 2-4-1 with a 4.39 goals-against average and .882 save percentage. The 6-foot-2 netminder played parts of four seasons in Halifax, posting an impressive 16-2-1 record with a 1.81 goals-against average and .930 save percentage in 2018-19 when the Mooseheads hosted the Memorial Cup as QMJHL Finalists. McLaren owns a career record of 26-20-4 with a 3.25 goals-against average and .899 save percentage over 62 regular season outings.
Cole has committed to the Carleton Ravens men’s hockey program for the 2021-22 season.
