Dawson Pasternak Leaves USHL, To Play For Portland In 2021-22
Portland, Ore. – The Portland Winterhawks, proud member club of the Western Hockey League, announced today that the club has received a commitment from forward Dawson Pasternak for the upcoming 2021-22 season.
Pasternak, a 2003-born winger who had previously signed with Portland, returns to the Rose City after a season and a half with the Chicago Steel of the United States Hockey League (USHL). The 5-foot-9, 170-pound product of Winnipeg, MB tallied 37 points in 86 games en route to winning a Clark Cup Championship this past season.
“We signed Dawson as a young player and I felt at that time that he played the style of game we want to play in Portland,” Vice President, General Manager and Head Coach Mike Johnston said. “When we watched him play for Manitoba at the Under-16’s, he was a top three player on that team. He’s going to be a nice addition to our group of forwards and I believe he can be an NHL player. Dawson is smart and plays with energy, which should translate well in our league. I know he’s excited to come to Portland and develop in the Western Hockey League and we’re excited to have him.”
The right-handed shot was originally selected by the Winterhawks in the fourth round (#85 overall) of the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft and he attended both the 2018 and 2019 Neely Cups. Pasternak played for the Winterhawks during the 2019 preseason and scored his first goal, a game-winning power play goal, against the Spokane Chiefs. Fans can watch him again at the 2021 Neely Cup Training Camp which takes place at Veterans Memorial Coliseum from September 1-5.
Pasternak and the Winterhawks will begin their 2021-22 Regular Season schedule on Friday, October 1 in Tri-City.
