Winterhawks Weekly: Hawks head north with 2-0 series lead
The Winterhawks hit the road this week looking to close out their second-round series against the Everett Silvertips. The Hawks earned a 2-0 series lead with a pair of dominant efforts on home ice last weekend, posting an 8-2 win in Game 1 and a 6-1 victory in Game 2.
Now, Portland and Everett face off at Angel of the Winds Arena tonight (Monday) and Friday, with a potential Game 5 taking place in Everett on Saturday. The Hawks sit just two wins shy of a berth in the Western Conference Championship, and will be keen to finish the job on the road.
Hot Hawks:
- Defenseman Tyson Jugnauth led all Winterhawks skaters with five points (3G, 2A) last week, scoring his first career playoff goals and pushing his point streak to three games. Impressively, Jugnauth scored on both the PP and the PK on Friday, and has six points in seven games this postseason.
- Forward Kyle Chyzowski posted back-to-back two-goal efforts to pace a pair of dominant wins to start Round 2 and has scored in three consecutive contests (5G). Chyzowski ranks sixth on the team with six points in six games during the 2024 WHL Playoffs.
- Forward Nate Danielson continued his stellar play with consecutive 1G, 1A performances last weekend. The Detroit Red Wings first-rounder leads the team with 10 points in the postseason, and has found the scoresheet in five of six games played thus far.
- Forward Josh Davies notched a goal and two helpers over the weekend to stretch his point streak to five straight games. The Florida Panthers prospect has points in five of six games this postseason, including three multi-point efforts.
- Goaltender Jan Špunar was stout between the pipes once again, stopping 53 of 56 total shots in Games 1 and 2. The Czech backstop has won all six playoff contests this season, with two or fewer goals conceded in four of those games.
Play of the Week:
Tyson Jugnauth turned heads with three goals last weekend, but none shone as brightly as his statement coast-to-coast tally in the early stages of Game 1. The Seattle Kraken prospect sent a raucous VMC crowd into a frenzy with some slick skating and a tidy tuck off the crossbar and into the net. Enjoy! ⤵️
