Winterhawks Sign Prospect Marcus Nguyen
The Portland Winterhawks are pleased to announce the signing of Calgary, AB native Marcus Nguyen.
The 5’-9”, 145 lbs. forward was the second leading scorer for the 2019—20 Calgary Northstars Midget AAA team with nine goals and 23 assists for 32 points in 31 games. This performance cemented his status as one of the elite 15-year olds in the challenging Alberta Midget AAA league.
Nguyen also recorded one goal and two assists for three points in four games for the Northstars at the prestigious Macs Tournament (2019).
Portland Winterhawks Director of Scouting and Player Development Mike Coflin described Nguyen as a player who “possesses exceptional speed and quickness, as well as the ability to finish his chances. These qualities translate well to future success with the Winterhawks.”
The Winterhawks selected Nguyen in the eleventh round of the 2019 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft (234th overall). He becomes the fourth prospect signed from the Winterhawks 2019 draft class joining Kyle Chyzowski (3rd Round), Ryder Thompson (5th Round), and Josh Mori (8th Round).
