Winterhawks Launch Month of Giving in November
At the Portland Winterhawks, we believe hockey is about more than just the game—it’s about supporting our community. This November, we’re proud to launch our Month of Giving, bringing together fans, local organizations, and our team to make a real difference in Portland and beyond.
Our Community Initiatives
November 13 vs. Calgary
When we take on the Calgary Hitmen, we’re not just playing hockey. We’re helping keep local kids warm this winter through our partnership with KGON’s Coats for Kids. Online monetary donations are available through Operation Warm.
Can’t make it to the arena? Simply text “KGON” to 44321 to get a direct donation link and help provide warm clothing to children in need.
November 15 vs. Red Deer
As we face the Red Deer Rebels, we’re tackling two critical missions in our community. Our Hawks Fight Hunger initiative, presented by Fred Meyer, focuses on combating local food insecurity. Fans can contribute non-perishable food items at donation barrels located throughout the Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Winterhawks Skating Center in Beaverton, and Sherwood Ice Arena. To amplify our impact, the Winterhawks will match donations up to $1,000, ensuring every contribution goes further. After the Nov. 15 game, ladies 18+ can join us on the ice for our Fred Meyer Turkey Shoot! Take your shot and score a goal for a chance to win a free turkey from Fred Meyer… just in time for Thanksgiving!
Donate to the Oregon Food Bank
Simultaneously, we’re recognizing the incredible educators who shape our community’s future. We’ve offered complimentary tickets to teachers from Sunset High School, providing a special night of appreciation for their dedicated work. Between fighting hunger and celebrating teachers, this game represents the heart of our community commitment.
November 22 vs. Lethbridge
Our matchup against the Lethbridge Hurricanes becomes a beacon of holiday hope. Partnering with Les Schwab and KPTV/Fox12, we’re hosting our annual Toy Drive to bring joy to children in need. Fans can bring new, unwrapped toys to donate at the concourse, with all proceeds supporting holiday gifts for local children. KPTV’s Tony Martinez will be hosting in-game activities, adding excitement to our charitable efforts. By purchasing special memorabilia and participating in raffles, fans can directly contribute to making the holidays brighter for kids in our community.

November 23 vs. Wenatchee
In collaboration with 94/7 KNRK, we’re shining a spotlight on Stumptown Strays, a local animal rescue organization that does incredible work. This night is about more than just hockey—it’s about raising awareness and supporting those who care for our community’s abandoned and vulnerable animals. Fans will have the opportunity to learn more about Stumptown Strays’ mission and find ways to directly support their important work.
November 27 vs. Kelowna
Partnering with The Wolf (KWJJ), we’re addressing a critical community issue: medical debt. During this game, we’ll share information about the challenges local families face due to medical expenses. Through our collaboration with RIP Medical Debt Relief, we provide fans with concrete ways to help alleviate the financial burden faced by our neighbors. It’s a powerful reminder that community support goes beyond the hockey rink.
November 29 vs. Kelowna
Our final giving event is a tribute to those who serve our community most. During our Black Friday afternoon game against Kelowna, we’ll honor local military personnel, first responders, and healthcare workers with a special color guard presentation and camo merchandise for Hometown Heroes Night. We’re also bringing back the KGON Coats for Kids initiative, giving fans another opportunity to support those in need. This game represents the culmination of our Month of Giving, celebrating the true heroes of our community.
Shop with a Hawk
In partnership with Fred Meyer and the Sunshine Division, we’re bringing holiday magic to students from Chief Joseph Elementary. Thanks to the Portland Winterhawks Booster Club, each child will receive a $150 Fred Meyer gift card and will have the unique opportunity to shop alongside Winterhawks players. This isn’t just a shopping trip—it’s a chance to create lasting memories and show these children that their community believes in them.
Extending the Spirit of Giving into December
Les Schwab Teddy Bear Toss – December 8
Our commitment to community doesn’t stop int November. When we face Vancouver on Sunday, December 8, we’re bringing back our beloved Teddy Bear Toss tradition. Fans are invited to bring new, unwrapped teddy bears and stuffed animals to the game. The moment our first goal is scored, we’ll turn the arena into a sea of cuddly joy as thousands of stuffed animals rain down onto the ice. These bears will be donated to local children’s hospitals, shelters, and community organizations, bringing comfort and happiness to kids who need it most. It’s a Winterhawks tradition that turns a hockey game into a moment of pure magic and community support. Click here to secure your Les Schwab Teddy Bear Toss tickets before they sell out!
