GAME 35: TIGERS @ RED DEER REBELS

VS RED DEER: This is the second of six meetings between these two Central Division rivals. The Tigers lost the previous game versus the Rebels 2-1 in Medicine Hat. Curtis Valk scored the lone goal for the Tigers. Marek Langhamer (0-1-0-0) got the start in net for the Tigers. He allowed two goals against (2.05 GAA) on 23 shots (.913 Save %) in the loss. On the power play the Tigers went 0 for 3 (0.0%), while killing off all 4 Rebels’ opportunities (100.0%).

VS CENTRAL DIVISION: The Tigers have posted a 6-5-0-0 record so far this season versus Central Division opponents.

 

LAST GAME: The Tigers won their second straight game in a shootout. They defeated the visiting Regina Pats 4-3 in a shootout on Sunday night. Trevor Cox, Miles Koules and Cole Sanford scored in regulation for the Tigers. Daniel Wapple picked up his 12th win of the season making 26 saves and stopping all three shooters he faced in the shootout. The Tigers went 2 for 6 on the power play and 2 for 3 on the penalty kill.  

 

MILESTONES: Curtis Valk recently reached an impressive career milestone and is quickly approaching a couple more. He picked up his 100th career assist in the 4-3 loss to the Kelowna Rockets and is now only four points away from 200 and eight goals away from 100 in his career. In 232 games with the Tigers, Valk has scored 92 goals and assisted on 105 others for 197 points. Trevor Cox also recently hit an impressive assist milestone. He collected his 50th career assist in the 2-1 loss to Red Deer. In 162 games, Cox has 36 goals and 53 assists for 89 points. Dylan Bredo has been an ironman during his tenure with the Tigers. Bredo (303 games) recently became only the eighth player in Tigers history to play 300 regular season games in the orange and black. Ben Thomson holds the record at 352 games played and if Bredo plays the remaining 40 games in the regular season he will finish in third behind only Thomson (352) and Mark Polak (351).

 

STREAKS: After being shut out by the Calgary Hitmen, four Tigers have played great hockey and found their way on to the scoresheet in each of the last two games. The Tigers won both of their two previous games 4-3 in shootouts with Tommy Vannelli (2A), Ty Stanton (2A), Cole Sanford (1G,2A) and Trevor Cox (2G,2A) playing a major role.

 

ATB TIGERS SKILLS COMPETITION: The Tigers and ATB Financial are proud to present the third annual Tigers Skills Competition on January 8th. Tickets are now on sale at the Tigers ticket office and ATB Financial locations. Tickets are $5 and all proceeds go directly to the MS Society.

 

ATB PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Tommy Vannelli was named the ATB Financial Player of the Week for the week ending Dec 8th. It is his first player of the week honour of the season. Over the past week, Vannelli scored three goals and posted an even plus/minus rating over two games. Over the week the Tigers went 1-1-0-0.
