TIGERS FALL 3-1 TO HITMEN

The Tigers returned from the Christmas break rejuvenated and looking a little different than they did in the first half. The Tigers recently made a couple of trades and signed overage forward Carter Chorney, who made his Tigers debut in Calgary on Tuesday night.

Tuesday’s game in Calgary was the first game of a home and home series and the third meeting between the Central Division rivals this season. Both of the previous tilts were close, including one overtime game, but the Hitmen were able to come away with both victories.

Hitmen centre Cael Zimmerman opened the scoring midway through the second period while on the power play. Anton Astashevich found Zimmerman in the slot with a pass that he wristed low stick side for his eighth of the season.

The Hitmen made it a two goal game halfway through the final frame. Carter Yakemchuk put a shot on net from the point that Garin Bjorklund was able to stop. Riley Fiddler–Schultz grabbed the rebound and found the back of the net after a couple of shot attempts.

With a power play and an empty net, the Tigers cut the lead to one late in the game. Oasiz Wiesblatt let a wrister go from the right circle that beat the Hitmen goaltender for his third of the season. Dru Krebs and Andrew Basha earned the assists on the power play marker.

Calgary would seal the victory shortly after with an empty net goal. Tyson Galloway was the beneficiary and picked up his fourth of the year.

Garin Bjorklund (3-13-2-0) got the start in net for the Tigers. He had a fantastic game saving 37 of the 39 shots he faced.
