TIGERS FALL 4-0 IN SASKATOON
The Tigers headed to Saskatoon on Friday to take on the Blades at SaskTel Centre. It was their first meeting since January 24, 2020.
The Blades jumped out to an early lead with Tyler Wong scoring his second of the season only 5:12 into the opening frame. Wong tipped home the point shot from Pavel Bocharov. Saskatoon would add to their lead late in the period while on the power play. Egor Sidorov scored the first WHL goal of his career of a nifty tip from the left side of the net. Aidan De La Gorgendiere and Tristen Robins picked up the helpers on the goal.
The Blades outshot the Tigers 17-7 in the second period but Gavin Bjorklund made a few unbelievable saves to keep the game close. Unfortunately the Blades were able to get one shot past the Tigers netminder to make it a 3-0 game. Off a faceoff win, De La Gorgendiere found Kyle Crnkovic on the right hand side for a quick one timer that found the back of the net. Robins picked up the secondary assist with the faceoff win.
Despite being down 3-0 to start the third period the Tigers battled hard to come back. They controlled the play in their offensive end for much of the period outshooting the Blades 14-5. Some nights though you just run into a goalie that is on his game. Nolan Maier had a great game in net for the Blades to pick up his fifth career shutout. The Blades would add one more goal in the third to make it a 4-0 game. Crnkovic scored his second of the game and fifth of the season while down a man. Robins made a long outlet pass off the boards that found Crnkovic and gave him a breakaway.
Although he had four goals against him, Garin Bjorklund had a strong game in net for the Tigers. He made a number of highlight reel saves that kept the game close. He saved 29 of the 33 shots he faced in the game.
