GAME RECAP: Silvertips hoist banners, fall in OT 3-2

EVERETT, Wash. — The Everett Silvertips hoisted a Championship banner but saw their home opener spoiled Saturday night, dropping a 3-2 overtime contest against the Portland Winterhawks.

Avery Laliberte opened the scoring for Portland 39 seconds into the second period, lifting a shot from beside the post over the blocker of netminder Jayden Kraus for his first career WHL tally. Henri Ament responded at 19:16 in the frame, capitalizing on a rebound off a Reid Nicol shot.

Luke Wilfley restored the Portland lead 3:14 into the third period, potting a powerplay goal on a double-minor. Everett scored a powerplay goal of their own at 7:45, with Rhys Jamieson wiring a one-timer from the right circle at 5-on-3.

Jordan Duguay’s OT winner on a 2-on-0 rush 1:57 into the extra frame sealed the win for the Winterhawks. Jayden Kraus finished 28-for-31 in net, while Ondrej Štébeták stopped 39 of 41 in the win.
