Wheat Kings Halt Pats Win Streak
Regina, Saskatchewan – The Regina Pats were in action for their fourth pre-season game of 2014 against the Wheat Kings in Brandon and lost their first game of the exhibition campaign by an 8-6 score line.
First Period
In the opening frame the Wheat Kings powerplay would strike as Tyler Coulter scored on a breakaway at 3:05 to make it 1-0. Ryan Pilon and Ivan Proporov had the assists. The Pats got that goal back 30 seconds later as Dane Schioler batted a puck out of midair past Wheat King netminder Logan Thompson for his first of the pre-season at 3:35. Adam Brooks and James Hilsendager were credited with the assists. The Pats took their first lead at 11:23 as Adam Brooks made an outstanding breakaway pass to Austin Wagner who put home his second of the pre-season and the Pats led 2-1. Late in the frame, Brandon tied things up with their second powerplay goal of the period. Jesse Gabrielle tipped home a Ryan Pilon point shot at 19:52 and it was 2-2. The Pats led the shots on goal in the frame 16-12.
Second Period
Brandon made it 3-2 at 6:19 of the middle period as Tyler Coulter found a loose puck in front of the Pats goal and put home his second of the game. The Pats responded 1:11 later as Logan McVeigh made a nice move to the backhand and finished off the crossbar and in for his first at 7:30 and it was 3-3. Adam Brooks and Austin Wagner accounted for the assists. Both teams changed goalies halfway through the period. Tyler Fuhr stopped 16 of 19 before being replaced by Dawson MacAuley in the Pats goal. Logan Thompson stopped 19 of 22 for Brandon and was replaced by Josh Dechaine. The period ended tied 3-3 with the Pats leading the shots 31-19.
Third Period
In the third the Pats took the lead at 1:59 as Rylee Zimmer scored his first, unassisted. 24 seconds later, Brandon tied it as Quinton Lisoway put home a rebound at 2:23 and it was 4-4. 32 seconds after that, the Pats went up 5-4 as Sergey Zborovskiy scored his third of the pre-season at 2:55. Then it was 6-4 at 7:14 as Jared McAmmond scored his second shorty in as many games. The Wheat Kings scored 10 seconds later from Quinton Lisoway and it was 6-5. Then at 9:46 Jesse Gabrielle tied the game with his second. Brandon went ahead 7-4 at 11:25 with a powerplay goal from Rihards Bukarts and Braylon Shmyr made it 8-6 with a breakaway goal at 12:23. That score held up as Regina suffered its first loss of the exhibition season with the shots ending tied 38-38.

The Pats host the Wheat Kings Saturday night at the Cooperators Centre at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 for Adults and $5 for Youth or are included in Season Ticket Booklets which are available for pick up at the Pats Office, open Noon-7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
