RECAP: Pats outlast Broncos for first win of 2018-19
The Regina Pats picked up their first win of the season on Friday night, 6-5 over the Broncos in Swift Current.
The Pats were down 1-0 in the first, but Duncan Pierce tied it up on a wraparound for his second of the year and then Jake Leschyshyn scored on the powerplay, his second, and it was 2-1 Regina after 20 minutes. In the second, the Broncos tied it up again, but with 17 seconds left in the period, Austin Pratt put home a rebound for his first and Regina led 3-2 after two. In the third, the Broncos tied the game for a third time thanks to Ethan Regnier, 47 seconds in and it was 3-3. The Pats scored three straight after that, Robbie Holmes with his second, Austin Pratt his second and Jake Leschyshyn with his third to lead 6-3. The Broncos got two back on the powerplay, but Regina held on late for a 6-5 win.
The Pats went two for six on the powerplay and two for five on the penalty kill. Austin Pratt, Nick Henry and Aaron Hyman led the offence with three points each while Dean McNabb made 24 saves in his first start for the Pats.
The Pats (1-4-0-0) are right back at it on Saturday night at the Brandt Centre against the Brandon Wheat Kings at 7 p.m.
