Rivals Clash Ahead of Christmas Break
Regina, Saskatchewan – The Regina Pats (19-11-1-0) battle the Brandon Wheat Kings (24-7-2-1) for the third time this month. The Pats hold a 2-2-0-0 record against Brandon, winning the previous matchup between the teams by a 3-2 score. Braden Christoffer and Sam Steel lead Regina with five points (2G, 3A) each. Peter Quenneville leads the Wheat Kings with a similar five points in the season series. Coming into tonight’s game, the Pats are back in the win column after a 5-4 victory in Saskatoon while Brandon has points in four straight including a 4-0 win against Red Deer on Sunday. Lead Up: Pats Take Late 5-4 Win from Saskatoon
On a night of lead changes, the Pats got the fourth and final swap with three seconds left on the clock. Brett Stovin opened the scoring in the first before Connor Gay, Rykr Cole and Sam Steel pushed the Pats to a 3-1 lead. The Blades responded with three of their own capped off by Cameron Hebig scoring a pretty goal seconds into the third. Chase Harrison had an answer for that marker which set the stage for Braden Christoffer to rush the puck from the neutral zone, drive the net and score in the final moments.
Back in the Lineup
Morgan Klimchuk returns to the Pats roster after being released from Team Canada’s World Junior entry on Sunday. The Calgary, AB product scored a goal in each of Canada’s wins over the CIS Selects, but was one of five players returned to their club teams this weekend.
On the Sheet
Pats defenceman/forward Carter Hansen has found some point production on the blue-line. After going 17 games without a point, the Craven, SK native has three assists in his last two games including a two assist effort in Saskatoon. The 19-year old is logging more minutes with injuries to the Pats’ back-end.
Driving the Net
After a stretch where he tallied one assist over five games, Braden Christoffer now sits with a seven game point streak and has goals in four of five. Christoffer sits two goals away from his career high of 13 and is on pace for a 55 point season, a 20 point increase over 2013-14.
