Pats Put Wraps on Regular Season Home Schedule
Regina, Saskatchewan – The Regina Pats (37-23-5-5) host the Prince Albert Raiders (29-37-2-2) in the final home game of the regular season. It’s the teams’ seventh meeting of the season with the Pats holding a (4-2-0-0) record against the Raiders. Last time out saw Prince Albert win 5-3 at home. Pavel Padakin is the top Pats player in the series with 12 points (4G, 8A). Jordan Tkatch leads the Raiders with eight points (5G, 3A) in six games against Regina. Coming into tonight’s game, the Pats have dropped two straight including a 4-1 decision to the Brandon Wheat Kings at home on St. Patricks Day. The Raiders fell in their previous contest, 6-2 at home to Medicine Hat. Tune into tonight’s game on 620 CKRM starting at 6:35 p.m.
Fan Appreciation and Award Night
Before the opening face-off, the organization will honour their own. The team will present its end of the year awards and recognize graduating players in an on-ice ceremony hosted by Phil Andrews. Fans should be ready for plenty of prize giveaways throughout the night including a shoot-to-win for an RV courtesy of Traveland RV. Fans should stay in their seats all the way to the end of the game as 620 CKRM and the Sportscage will give one lucky fan $1,000 cash.
Lead Up: Pats Drop 4-1 Decision to Brandon on St. Patrick’s Day
The Pats played for the first time on St. Patrick’s Day since 2007. Facing the East Division leading Brandon Wheat Kings, the Pats jumped out to an early lead on an early goal from Braden Christoffer. Three minutes later Brandon drew even on a goal from Nolan Patrick. The second period remained scoreless. Brandon scored two goals in the third, 30 seconds apart to take a 3-1 lead. Former Pat Morgan Klimchuk added an empty net goal to close out the game.
Christoffer Reaches 200
Pats Captain Braden Christoffer played his 200th WHL game Tuesday night against Brandon. The Sherwood Park, AB product earned a spot on the roster as an 18-year old and was immediately a regular in the lineup. The forward has 113 points (50G, 63A) over his 200 games along with 353 penalty minutes. Named captain following the departure of Kyle Burroughs, Christoffer reached career highs in goals (26), assists (32), plus/minus (15) and penalty minutes (132) this season. Christoffer sits 49th on the Pats all-time list for penalty minutes.
Molson Cup
Goaltender Daniel Wapple takes home this award, amassing the most Three Stars points throughout the season. Wapple tied with Pavel Padakin for the team lead in First Star nominations with four on the season, and tied with Austin Wagner for second in Second Star nominations. Padakin and Adam Brooks round out the top three on the Pats in the final Molson Cup standings.
Elmer Recalled
The Pats have recalled forward Jake Elmer (’98) from the Edge Mountaineers of the CSSHL. Elmer posted 58 points (34G, 24A) in 56 games this season. The Calgary, AB product played three games earlier in the season with Regina.
